Top Hat Gives Back, Reduce your Carbon Footprint
And global warming… if you believe that it exists
Did you know, that at Top Hat Chimney Sweeps, we plant a tree for every review we get? We plant these trees in deforested areas of the world.
Be proud that you live in Alabama! Alabama for several years has actually been increasing the percentage of forested land by close to 3% a year. Absolutely amazing! Sweet home Alabama!
Top Hat has planted over 400 trees. That means that customers who have given us review are responsible for reducing the carbon footprint of the world by 8,800 pounds per year just by giving us review. And a tree lives a lot longer than one year, think about it.
Not only that! We would like to thank our wood burning customers. Did you know that burning wood is carbon neutral. A tree produces the same amount of carbon dioxide when it rots in the forest as when you burn it. It has no effect on the carbon cycle It is considered carbon neutral according to the EPA.
Additionally, if you plant a tree for each one you burn, ou have exponentially reduced your carbon footprint.
Unfortunately, according to the EPA, the average American car produces 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year. Oil products are not a renewable resource. I may be a dreamer, but I do like my big carbon producing vehicles.
Being a dreamer, one day I hope that our transportation will rely on carbon neutral fuels. Wouldn't it be great to run our cars on wood pellets that are carbon neutral. It is possible! Do you remember the mode of transportation that fueled America. It was called the steam locomotive.
Let's get back on track… Chimney Sweeps are realists as well as dreamers.
I have faith in the American people and American ingenuity! Having been in the wood burning industry for close to 40 years, I thought the EPA would put us out of business due to the amount of particulates produced by inefficient wood burning appliances. Way back in the 1980s, the EPA said we had to reduce our particulate emissions of wood stoves by close to 70%. At the time, that just wasn't possible… we thought!
The wood stove manufacturers got together and figured out technology that would reduce the particulate emissions of our high efficiency wood burning fireplaces. That was just the beginning. Today's wood burning fireplaces burn cleaner than ever. And I am actually thankful for the EPA pushing our industry towards a cleaner world. Our industries haven't failed yet. Wood burning is getting cleaner and cleaner and, as previously stated, has always been carbon neutral.
Bottom line: I wish it was convenient for all of you to burn wood. I know this is not the case. Maybe you can at least give us a review at our next servicing and be part of reducing carbon on our planet.
Stay warm and safe!
